Anyway you look at it, golf is a very intimidating sport. Why? Because you are actually playing against yourself and if you are not physically or emotionally fit, the course will wear you down. But this type of sport has attracted a lot of enthusiasts to the point where a tournament becomes a media affair. If a tournament includes world known players in its list, then expect media to be like bees swarming the golf course. So, as the crowd of enthusiasts gather and follow their favorite players on the course hole after hole, expect TV cameras to swoop down on potential news stories. Yes, stories about golf had gained phenomenal access to television coverage, to newspapers and magazines making it a good vehicle for advertisement.

Expect giant multi-national companies to sponsor golf tournaments. Like Nissan or Toyota, McDonalds or Nike to sponsor golf tournaments, attracting among others big named golf stars to grace the tournament and the result is additional media mileage for their products. To enliven the atmosphere of the course, sponsors use custom golf flags that bear company logo's, slogan's and messages that are printed over it to mark holes, hazards, sand traps and water lagoons to inform players and the public.

Some golf flags even have messages announcing that a brand new car or maybe a vacation for two to Hawaii is at stake for an officially sanctioned hole-in-one by anyone of the tournament players. So, as each hole unfolds this is dutifully followed by the crowd and the TV crews for the lucky player to win the special prize.
