In 1879, Queen Victoria gave Queen’s Park to the people living in Heywood. The place is quite a beauty. It is a municipal park that was listed as Grade II. There are a number of historical places and grand views to witness at the place too. Some of the structures that can be seen today have existed since the 1800s, such as the Lodge House and the Victoria Fountain. You will enjoy quiet walks in the Manchester park during weekends. You will also spot Ashworth Valley and the River Roch. The park was given the Green Flag Award in 2013.
When in Queen’s Park, you will enjoy the lake, river bank, playground, cycle racks, visitor area, BMX track, activity area, teenis courts, wildlife walk, free park spaces, café, wildlife sites, park warden, fenced place, orienteering area, pavilion and the bowling greens. There are several other features to see and enjoy at the park.
Part of Wythenshawe Park in 2012 was known as a nature lover’s spot. People usually come to the place for the Gib Lane Wood and Nan Noon Wood. Many also call it the Garden City because of the numerous trees and attractive plants that grow in various parts of the park. Some of these plants can only be found in Manchester. There are other activities to try like drinking coffee, playing at the open sites, orienteering, riding horses, football, track, bowling and walking. Flagpoles have evolved much through the decades.

General George Washington and the Commanding Continental soldiers who besieged Boston called the Betsy Ross flag the Grand Union flag. The banner had 13 alternating stripes of red and white, and there is a British Union jack on the upper left corner.
Captain John Paul Jones raised the flag for the first time on the USN Alfred. The new flag was initially featured during battle one month later at Prospect Hill close to Cambridge by the troops who were besieging Boston, which was occupied by the British at the time.
There were two other early flags that were raised during the battle on Breed’s Hill. The fight was erroneously believed to have happened near Bunker Hill on June 17, 1776. One of these flags was blue while the other was red. The two flags showed the British Cross of St. George as well as a green pine tree.

Many people do not know the true history of the American flag, but many experts believe that Betsy Ross was the one who came up with the original design. Others say that the design came from George Washington.
Ross’s grandson claimed that his grandmother was the person who came up with the flag that people see today. Betsy as a wide seamstress. According to her grandson, she told him the tale of the flag when he was only 11 years old. Reportedly, a delegation featuring General George Washington, Robert Morris, a member of the Continental Congress, and George Ross, Betsy’s husband’s uncle, went to her in Philadelphia in May 1776. The delegation allegedly requested her to come up with the first American flag, which should feature 13 pointed stars and 13 stripes.
