Flagpoles are not very common outside of homes but some people like to display these to show their love for country and to showcase their principles. Regardless of the use, flagpoles are grouped into telescopic, residential and commercial types.
Residential flagpoles are not usually short or small. There are some that handle strong gusts better than other setups. The commercial type is more durable. The height of the flagpoles can be anywhere between six and 35 feet. The taller poles are more prone to falling against strong winds. Commercial flagpoles also feature a single section that make these quite strong. There are models that are built to tolerate storms and powerful winds. Telescopic poles can be adjusted so that the height will suit your preference. The special feature will also affect the strength of the flag.

What Should Be in a Pole
The height of a flagpole will depend on what people should consider as high enough. It is important to note that more sections will mean a weaker design because there are several parts to take note of. The same applies to a gutter system and how the sectional types are prone to leaking. Flagpoles will have to handle wind better, compared to gutters that handle water.
Another important aspect is the halyard system which will raise and lower the flag accordingly. The external halyard feature a rig outside of the flagpole, while an internal setup is built inside the pole itself. The two will serve the same purpose although the arrangement may be different. When protecting the flagpole from external agents, an internal halyard system is preferred.
Other types to know about include wall-mounted, in-ground and nautical flagpoles. There are in-ground flagpoles but you have to check the size and available space. If you have limited space, wall-mounted poles will be better. These are not as great as others in handling bigger banners but will work for commercial setups and urban gardens. Nautical poles are for ships, docks and ports. You can also display more than one flag on a single flagpole.
Flagpoles are made of aluminum and will be prone to moisture and heat. These will not rust easily and also last a long time. If you have a bigger budget, you might consider fiberglass poles that provide various advantages. Check the current weather conditions in your area. Check how high your area is and how often storms and typhoons occur. Aluminum poles are good for windy places. Fiberglass poles are better for venues with acid rain.
You can also try a variety of colors using fiberglass. Fiberglass is usually white although you can opt for other colors. Aluminum can feature colorful finishes like black, bronze and silver.
Flagpoles can be enhanced in terms of looks by using decorations and ornaments. Toppers are a great way to improve its overall shape and design. A ball topper may also feature symbols like stars, birds, spears and more. You can install a light on top to illuminate the banner at night.
