Many people will miss a putt at one time or another, and many will also be confused as to how they could have missed a simple shot.
Every golfer may admit that they have missed an easy putt at least once in their life. You might remember standing just a few feet away from the golf flag and the ball rolling almost into the cup but at the last second change direction. The whole approach is actually more complicated than you believe. You go through all the process and you might discover that you did something wrong with a basic shot.
After missing the first time, you try to stay calm and position yourself close to the ball. You eye the golf flag again and breathe deeply as you putt again. The ball rolls according to plan, then suddenly swerves again or might even chip the cup before falling out completely. Some people will lose their composure when the second miss happens. Others will start blaming the grass or the golf flag. You might even feel ashamed as the ball gets closer and closer to the hole but never falls in.
If you are wondering what you did wrong, try to consider the approach and rewind the minor events. You might finally discover what your minor error was that led to the whole mistake. What were you thinking the first time you walked towards the putting green? Your state of mind can impact the final result.
Many golfers will feel very confident if they successfully land the ball in the green area, believing that they can make it to the hole in a shot or two. However, those who become too confident are actually the ones who eventually miss.
Did you check the surroundings before you actually putt? You might think that it is a mere two feet away and fail to acknowledge the grass, the angle of the ground and the wind direction. All these small details can still affect the direction and speed of the ball towards the cup. Did you view the ground and observe how the ball of other players rolled towards the golf flag? Or did you simply walk up to the ball and chip it as quickly as possible, hoping to score right away? Those who believe that the shot is very easy are actually the ones who never make it.
Golf is a mind game as much as it is physical. You have to consider all the circumstances and have a steady and calm demeanor from start to finish. You can never underestimate the entire approach, regardless of how far or near you are from the hole. Every shot will require the same amount of observation and time.
You should consider the various elements of the golf course. You should also take more time to think about the different features of the shot. If you feel too confident, you are at risk of missing.

Learn about how pros take the entire approach. You will see that even the best golfers never take a simply putt for granted.
