Travel by sea has always held the interest of people. We think that simply sailing anywhere could be romantic. We also think that it is very relaxing. However, the sea is quite dangerous. And sometimes, the only thing that you can do is to float around and let the sea carry you to wherever it pleases and hope that someone will find you. That is why there have been many improvements that serve to increase visibility even in the worst conditions.

During daytime rescue operations, rescuers start looking for bright colors in the relatively bleak landscape. Since bad weather makes the sea seem gray and depressing, the only hope that you have of being spotted is by being immensely colorful. This can be achieved by bringing brightly colored attention flags and lifejackets. This should make you stand out in the gray sea. If you don't have these improvements, you might not be spotted in time.

Rescue operations might involve different vessels. This means that it could be difficult to distinguish one vessel from the other. Identification is important especially if a priority has been raised on one of the ships. That is why nautical flags are brought on ships. This allows identification to be easier as rescuers would only have to look at their flags to tell the difference. This would allow rescuers to be more efficient as they will be able to focus on specific vessels especially if they are close to each other. After all, the difference between life and death is just a few seconds.
