It has been reiterated many times already that flags are official symbols of a country or nation. A flag representing a nation is not made overnight. Designs for world flags take months of careful deliberation and planning.

Each color, each line, each shape and each image is chosen carefully as each of these elements is symbolic of the country’s power, status, principle and values. It is no wonder that each countries around the world, whether small or large in land area and population, strive to create significant, relevant and influential flag design, to distinguish their country from the rest.

Every October of each year, people all over the world celebrate the United Nations day. This is the time of the year when every institution is adorned with almost all of the world flags to celebrate this event. Flags of different design and color are displayed in all their glory. These flags are commonly seen in schools that are obliged to celebrate this occasion in order to inculcate among the students the importance of unity and peace all over the world.

But why are world flags important? The answer is simple. For one, they help identify one country from another. The citizenship of one person can easily be identified through the flag he or she may carry. Another reason would be in generally understanding the culture, beliefs and values of a nation. Remember that each color and each image on the flag represents something relevant to that country which will help tell us what they deem important.

It is a good thing that we have geography and history lessons at school to learn more about world flags.
