Basic combat techniques these days rely on being able to effectively use cover and being able to shoot correctly. This is because they have to advance toward their objective so that they can take the field. They also need to shoot their enemies without being open to shots themselves. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be effective combat movement and it wouldn’t be good for their life expectancy.

The first thing that effective combat teams have to learn is how to shoot accurately from cover. This is because they will have to avoid being open from opposing fire. They do this by setting up a number of targets and different kinds of obstacles. Some of these targets can only be in the line of fire if they take cover behind specific obstacles. Sometimes, the targets are custom flags with targets printed on them to simulate movement.

The next thing that fire teams have to learn is how to move from cover to cover. This is because they have to advance in order to achieve the objective. And sometimes, they have a very short window of opportunity before enemy reinforcements arrive. Given that the enemy will also have access to cover, effective fire teams have to learn how to keep themselves out of fire while flanking the enemy. After all, cover will only have a limited angle of deflection. Fire teams can practice this by moving around obstacle courses and avoiding the spots that have custom flags on them so that they can practice spotting open areas in cover.
