Just like any other thing in this world that undergo the wear and tear process, flags and flag accessories are also subjected to this. There will come a point in time that you will have to let go and replace things which are irreparable. Nevertheless, you may prolong your investment by having a good knowledge in taking care of them and prolonging their lifespan. Understanding the material they are made of would be the next step in knowing the best care to be given to them.

Wood based accessories are best kept weather proof if they are secured in a cool and dry area. Therefore, they are best to be used indoors, where rain and the elements would not damage it as much. To even add longevity to them, you may coat them in varnish or water proof paint.

For metal based accessories, it would always wise to start off with something stainless such as aluminum or galvanized steel. Iron rust is of most concern for its longevity. Cleaning them would be easy since oil, water, or alcohol based detergents do well for this material. Unless these accessories are coated with another finish, you are good to go with any detergent.

Taking care of your flag accessories basically needs two things. The first is the right material for the area, and the second is keeping it clean and free of dirt and degrading elements. Keep these two in check and you could be sure that your investment in flag accessories would go a long way.
