In every school and government offices, flag poles can be seen. It is a common fixture in campuses and buildings but then let’s take a look at this familiar piece. In simple definition, the flag pole or a staff is usually where flag is being displayed or hang. Vexillologists or those who studies and collects flags would rather use the name staff and on the sea, it is a mast.

The concrete pole or staff is placed on the top by a truck; it is a metal plate or wooden block which was meant to avoid the splitting of the pole. Pulley or sheave are placed there where the ropes of the flags are being attached to it. Finial is often mistakenly described as the same with this, which is this piece, is a cast ornament or decorative carved that is usually being placed at the topmost of the pole. Usually a finial is an ordinary ball, it can be a crown, cross, crescent or spearhead.

Custom flags are usually being raised and lowered with the use of a rope termed as a halyard. Flags have a piece of rope put into the flag and which the flag is actually bent on to the halyard. The inglefield dips are usually the responsible piece in attaching the flag to the halyard and it has an eye and a double tapered gap that can be seen in the beak part and are already being attached to the bottom of the halyard. The other dip is being attached to the hoist line and the dips make it easy for rapid hoisting.

Flag poles are often have the most increased number of accessories and hardware needed. Its durability and stability is on top priority to ensure that these flags are being displayed in a proper and safe way.
