If you think street banners are only used to promote products, services and other corporate messages, you’re wrong. Street banners are also smart ways to speak of a cause or an advocacy.  It may also serve as a kind of public service announcement, depending on what you put on it.  If you have been to parts of the world where the use of street banners are very prominent you will find that this gives that place more flavor or more character.

The street banners in the Vatican says speaks volumes about the city the same way the loud rainbow flags in the streets of San Francisco, particularly in Castro Street contribute to the energy of the place.  It gives it that distinct vibe. If you are one for giving more zest to a place, then you get to appreciate these street banners and what they are there for.

Some opt to put plain text on such banners to speak of an advocacy.  This advocacy can be anything ranging from the preservation of rights to public service reminders.  This kind of environment allows for people to become more active and responsive to the cause.  They remind people what is important and what it is that they should take a second look on.  A lot of people might not realize it but a lot of people become more involved with a city, an advocacy and even an aesthetic history when they begin to appreciate the meanings they communicate through these simple street banners.
