In the history of maritime world, one of the timeless images we could ever imagine is the pirate’s flags which feature crossbones and skulls or also known as the Jolly Roger. This certain custom boat flag was utilized by pirates that will serve as an indication that the ship was manned by brigands and was always ready for a battle or sometimes just to scare the other sea vessels.

The boat flag or maritime flags can serve as a communication tool at all means. They are considered as ageless symbols. If a sea vessel enters or leaves a certain harbor, a sign is required to be exposed and when sailing on areas outside the borders. Some other flags are being displayed on warships.

Some headquarters can be seen with its rank flag which is termed as the flagship. Its long and yet narrow flag can channel different types of messages which is also termed as pennon or pennant. When a merchant ship is on its way, they usually put on display boat flags which can serve as an indication of their company. Even boat owners and yacht owners with an organization have their own flag. They have this tradition wherein the members will have their initial visit to another organization; they will have the exchange of flags.

Presently, every boating aficionado has their individual boat flags in which can be seen displayed on their own boats and yachts. Furthermore, sailing organizations have been popular and can be easily remembered by almost everyone due to their individual custom flags.
