The Jolly Roger pirate flag is one of the most popular. There were several variations of the flag. These were often seen aboard pirate ships especially during the age of exploration. Ships have to see friendly and pirate flags from afar so that they can steer clear of sea robbers and stay safe while moving from one continent to another.

If you have seen any maritime vehicles such as boats, yacht or ships it is a usual sight to see flags waving with it. In fact, even many years ago many boats and ships have flags as regular accessories that flags have become to have big impact or significance to the vehicle. Flag etiquette was developed in time and became traditions or included in the codes of ships and navies all over the world.
Although the navy flag etiquette is very detailed and specific, every boat man must find time to learn and practice it. It is important to be immersed in learning and practicing the etiquette on the use of boat flags because it has become a standard for boaters everywhere. This information can give a shock to someone new to a boating hobby because flags seemed to be just a regular thing that is just for display.
To begin, it is basic to know that there are different types of boat flags. All have distinguishing marks, symbols, colors and shapes. Also, there are basic rules to follow in relation to flag placement.
A flag is often placed at the stern of a vessel or the back part of a boat or ship. Going back to ancient times like during the Roman Empire wherein ships usually carry a small but important statue that is located at the back deck of a ship in order to have the spot made for worship. Flag etiquette has been practice for many years. Many people say that it originated decades ago from practices of maritime officers and sailors around the world. The tradition passed on by merchant vessels and naval forces should be followed even by recreational boaters. Knowing about the rules and practices surrounding boat flags will help boaters travel safely over different bodies of water as well as avoid maritime violations.
Many times, weekend boaters commit several errors by failing to read about the practices on how to properly use and display boat flags. It is best to get the advice of experts, read books and do more research about the elements, symbols and words on the banner. The flag should also be positioned on certain parts of the boat to let other vessels know about your place of origin or purpose. Other traveling vessels will show you respect for understanding the basic policies.
The primary placement of a boat flag would be at the stern. During the Roman period, it was common for ships to bring religious figures or puppies on the aft portion of the vessel. The area was especially made for sailors to pray and worship for safe seas and calm weather. The “poop deck” is a term given to the area of the ship creating the roof of one cabin. At the back, you will find the superstructure of the vessel at the stern. The stern is then deemed as the main places where the captain is located, since it is also where the captain’s quarters is built.
The stern remains as a special place for all ships until today. The national flag is generally positioned at the stern for others to see and show reverence.Labels: custom flag, custom boat flag, custom flag maker, custom flag. personalized flag

Just like any other flag there is, boat flags should be taken cared of properly. Since these are made up of porous types of cloth, they are prone to staining or discoloration. While the latter may be attributed to the inevitable wear and tear condition of every other thing in existence, the former is one of the most feared unfortunate outcomes.
Some of the most used, which unfortunately are the most prone to staining are wool and polyester. Their relative durability and wonderful adhesion to prints make them commonly used for convenience. May it be embroidered, rubberized, painted, silkscreened, or any other method for printing, boat flags made in this matter are definitely a sight to behold. Basic shapes and color schemes may be done by amateur flag makers. However, intricate and elaborate designs which need to be embroidered or meticulously made should be made by a specialist.
Some shipmen and captains would like to have their own collection of boat flags for their satisfaction. It could be a duplicate or a used up flag. Some even would adorn their room’s walls with these flags as a testament to the journeys they have made with these flags beside them. Some would just hang them by their eyelets hooked to wall mountings, while others would even go as far as to give so much reverence – by encasing boat flags full spread inside glass casings.
In a nutshell, one of the most effortless ways in keeping boat flags flying aloft the wind is by constantly looking after them everytime they are either hoisted and taken down, washed accordingly, and kept in a cool and dry place, and of course away from things that may cause a stain.Labels: custom flag, custom boat flag, custom flag maker, custom flag. personalized flag

Boaters and Sailors Have Advantages with Custom Boat Flags
Today, there are several modern developments and technologies that make it fast and easy for ships and water vessels to communicate. However, boats only relied on flags and other visual techniques before to discuss matters with other traveling vessels. Custom boat flags were very helpful in trips because these easily showcase letters and numbers that can easily be seen by other vessels. The messages can easily be exchanged between boasts.
Currently, alphanumeric flags are still very much in use by many boats. Many people still like the look of the flags on the boat while others continue to learn the traditional symbols and messaging system. Sailing groups and yacht organizations feature these custom boat flags a lot. It is a way of expressing themselves more and also sticking by the traditional rules of communication while over water.
Boat flags are very unique and are different from the flags you see on land. Those on land tend to have the design on one part only, while boat flags feature designs on both sides. Flags are also found on boats and can be shown during storms and fair weather. In the open sea, the climate can be harsh so you have to invest in a durable flag and properly link it to a pole on the boat.
If you wish to set up one or more flags on a yacht or boat, you can choose from a variety of designs as well as use alphanumeric flags for communication purposes. The flags will be ideal in decorating the vessel, while the symbols will also be helpful just in case modern telecommunication devices fail.

The main use of nautical flags is basically the same regardless of the times. One of the general uses of the flags is to guarantee the security of the boat as well as the people running it as it properly sends messages and other signs to other vessels and persons on and off shore.
The ICS flag system is considered a standard and most vessels coming from different countries all over the globe are expected to know how to use it. NATO vessels also make use of the ICS flags in many occasions. More of the applications are generally used by the military and the public usually does not truly understand its effects. If you look at other boating and water vessel activities, various flags are used aside from the ICS system. For many years, the ICS flag system has been incorporated to improve the way boats and ships communicate with each other as well as send messages to others inland.
As a whole, there are four unique types of flags. Single flags can present one message, letter or number. It can also show a repetition of a flag that has already been displayed thereby removing the possibility of several similar flags being displayed at the same time on a ship. Letter flags can also be used to form terms. Two or more combinations of a nautical flag can be used to make messages as defined by the ICS or International Code of Signals. The code was previously published in 1969 with some changes in 2003.

The world is actually comprised of 3/4 water and only 1/4 land. Every single day, ships, yachts, boats, cruise ships, leisure vessels and other types of water crafts travel across the ocean for a variety of purposes. Some of these vessels explore and navigate, others are intended to carry and deliver products and there are those that usher passengers from one country or city to the next. There are also many smaller vessels that carry people who merely wish to enjoy the sight of the sea, the sun and surrounding islands. Frequently, ships will cross each other without communicating at all.
The modes of communication between ships and water vessels vary. In some cases, it is highly needed for boats to have advanced forms of communication devices especially when trying to transmit important signals and messages. There could possibly be no existing problem if only every person in the world spoke the same language and satellite and radio systems were efficient all the time. This is not, however, he case, so people have to think of more reliable methods that will continue to work regardless of the day and circumstances. When it comes to reliability, nautical flags are still at the top of every seaman’s list.
Nautical flags have proven to be very useful and reliable when transmitting signals and messages to other water vessels and even stations and people located inland. The ICS or International Code of Signals is one of the best ways to communicate on board even today.

Only a few individuals would think about putting up custom boat flags for a high-end event. The truth is, not many people can actually hold a special event in a yacht or boat because of the high cost. Catering services actually charge a lot for parties held on a water vessel. However, all is not lost, since you can still have the boat-inspired party while having the venue inland. There are actually plenty of decorations that will give you the same feel such as custom boat flags.
Custom boat flags can be used on different features of the event, such as tables, aisles, entrances and banners. The flags can have other things added for a very complete look like table banners. The party will then achieve the finished effect and you can have the boat theme you've always wanted. The party will appear very polished and guests will very likely find the experience worth remembering.
To add more features, place the steering wheel of a boat and have the servers dress like sailors. For gifts and souvenirs, choose tiny bottles with sand and decors inside or miniature boats or yachts. It's also a good idea to position a photo wall with a large print of a boat deck and the party's theme or logo. If you're planning to use a carpet, choose blue.
When all is prepared and set, the entire event will look very detailed and complete. You don't even have to invest on other big items like fog machines or crystal decorations. Make sure you have the other elements ready as well like music, good food and drinks. Labels: advertising flag, boat flag, custom boat flag, custom flag, customized flag, personalized flag

Excellent creative designs on custom boat flags often give water vessels a special identity and their distinguished looks. There are several choices available for boat owners when it comes to boat flag design. One of the basic approaches is going for a design that matches the current look of the boat itself. This is acceptable but is very common. If you wish to truly stand out, you might like to try some of these suggestions.
Some themes are already too familiar with custom boat flags, such as prints, marks and logos of the beach, coast, water, ocean and summer. Try to be more daring and explore more unique options, such as getting themes from the 1970s, 1980s or 1990s. The patterns and images available from these decades can be printed conveniently in any kind of flag fabric. Trying a classic or vintage look will set you apart from the others. The pin-up girl image is very unique and fits different seasons.
Boat flag styles can also be created the same way you design or set up cars. Provide racing labels and give some attitude to your boat by placing tags like "speed", "racing" or "rush". To add some effect to current boat accessories, try logos and images from wakeboard and boat brands and manufacturers.
Cartoon designs are also popular choices for a boat flag because these are easily recognizable. Some of the favorite animations used by boat owners include Popeye and Bluto. These images are generally printed or embroidered on the flag of the water vessel to add some flavor and fun to a generally boring or plain-looking family boat.
One of the basic ways to customize boat flags is to boost the available boat accessories. Custom boat flags should not take away the attention from other parts of the boat or the boat itself. It generally functions to add detail to the overall appearance of the vessel. If you reflect on tales of the sea and ocean, you might immediately think about pirate ships with black flags presenting white skulls and crossbones, also called the Jolly Roger. These special boat flags were originally used by pirates to announce that the vessel was controlled by bandits to thwart other ships or show that they were always ready to fight.
The maritime flags also function to converse using a variety of methods. These have been present and functional for many centuries. Once a ship approaches or exits a harbor, communication symbols are needed to point out if it is friendly or an enemy. This is especially needed if a ship journeys further than the allocated area or past the boundaries. Warships also showcase other types of flags.
A number of base stations also feature rank flags, also known as the flagship. It features a long and slender flag that communicate and mean different things or even send messages, also called a pennant or pennon. Boat flags that feature the company of trading ships are required when these travel. Private owners of yachts and boats belonging to a group also present a flag. There's a long-standing practice wherein members of one boat group will swap flags during their first visit to another group's territory.
Today, many boat enthusiasts feature personalized boat flags on their vessel, either a boat or yacht. Sailing groups can also be easily identified and remembered because of the personalized custom flags. These groups are quickly spreading their name and reputation to other enthusiasts. Do you plan to customize your boat flags? Make sure the supplies are ready and in great condition. Otherwise, you will be spending money unnecessarily and get crappy results afterwards. Among all boat accessories, these flags are the most unnoticeable and discreet. However, even if they are not the most important parts to your boat, these flags offer an aesthetic touch to an otherwise boring and dull boat. The following are some ideas you might want to consider when planning for the customization.
First, consider the flag maker and what their capabilities are. In conceptualizing for your boat flag customization, your ideas and the flag maker’s ideas may differ and may cause problems for both of you. This means that what they have in mind for the design and everything else that comes with your order might not be to your liking. To avoid this possible problem from arising, you should either prepare a draft of the design that you want and hand it over to the flag maker or be with them during the process of designing.
Second, find out the kinds of materials to be used in making flags. It is always good for you to know what materials they are using so you can decide which material will be used for your very own flag. Quality and the price you pay for those materials should be worth it. Give them a sufficient overview of what you intend the boat flag to be like and its overall usefulness to you once you have actually used it on your boat.
And third, find out how prompt they are in delivering their goods. Make compromises as to when you expect to have your boat flags. You can choose to have different designs printed and made in a single batch of an order. And if they can accomplish this in the shortest time possible, consider yourself lucky. It is usually these batch orders that take time. Once you have covered these basic planning considerations, all that is left to do is to wait for the boat flag you wanted.
