Custom Street Pole Banners - Custom Feather Flags

Wednesday, December 7, 2011
If you reflect on tales of the sea and ocean, you might immediately think about pirate ships with black flags presenting white skulls and crossbones, also called the Jolly Roger. These special boat flags were originally used by pirates to announce that the vessel was controlled by bandits to thwart other ships or show that they were always ready to fight.

The maritime flags also function to converse using a variety of methods. These have been present and functional for many centuries. Once a ship approaches or exits a harbor, communication symbols are needed to point out if it is friendly or an enemy. This is especially needed if a ship journeys further than the allocated area or past the boundaries. Warships also showcase other types of flags.

A number of base stations also feature rank flags, also known as the flagship. It features a long and slender flag that communicate and mean different things or even send messages, also called a pennant or pennon. Boat flags that feature the company of trading ships are required when these travel. Private owners of yachts and boats belonging to a group also present a flag. There's a long-standing practice wherein members of one boat group will swap flags during their first visit to another group's territory.

Today, many boat enthusiasts feature personalized boat flags on their vessel, either a boat or yacht. Sailing groups can also be easily identified and remembered because of the personalized custom flags.  These groups are quickly spreading their name and reputation to other enthusiasts.
