Custom Street Pole Banners - Custom Feather Flags

Monday, September 8, 2014
Flag etiquette has been practice for many years. Many people say that it originated decades ago from practices of maritime officers and sailors around the world. The tradition passed on by merchant vessels and naval forces should be followed even by recreational boaters. Knowing about the rules and practices surrounding boat flags will help boaters travel safely over different bodies of water as well as avoid maritime violations.
Many times, weekend boaters commit several errors by failing to read about the practices on how to properly use and display boat flags. It is best to get the advice of experts, read books and do more research about the elements, symbols and words on the banner. The flag should also be positioned on certain parts of the boat to let other vessels know about your place of origin or purpose. Other traveling vessels will show you respect for understanding the basic policies.
The primary placement of a boat flag would be at the stern. During the Roman period, it was common for ships to bring religious figures or puppies on the aft portion of the vessel. The area was especially made for sailors to pray and worship for safe seas and calm weather. The “poop deck” is a term given to the area of the ship creating the roof of one cabin. At the back, you will find the superstructure of the vessel at the stern. The stern is then deemed as the main places where the captain is located, since it is also where the captain’s quarters is built.
The stern remains as a special place for all ships until today. The national flag is generally positioned at the stern for others to see and show reverence.
