Just like any other flag there is, boat flags should be taken cared of properly. Since these are made up of porous types of cloth, they are prone to staining or discoloration. While the latter may be attributed to the inevitable wear and tear condition of every other thing in existence, the former is one of the most feared unfortunate outcomes.
Some of the most used, which unfortunately are the most prone to staining are wool and polyester. Their relative durability and wonderful adhesion to prints make them commonly used for convenience. May it be embroidered, rubberized, painted, silkscreened, or any other method for printing, boat flags made in this matter are definitely a sight to behold. Basic shapes and color schemes may be done by amateur flag makers. However, intricate and elaborate designs which need to be embroidered or meticulously made should be made by a specialist.
Some shipmen and captains would like to have their own collection of boat flags for their satisfaction. It could be a duplicate or a used up flag. Some even would adorn their room’s walls with these flags as a testament to the journeys they have made with these flags beside them. Some would just hang them by their eyelets hooked to wall mountings, while others would even go as far as to give so much reverence – by encasing boat flags full spread inside glass casings.
In a nutshell, one of the most effortless ways in keeping boat flags flying aloft the wind is by constantly looking after them everytime they are either hoisted and taken down, washed accordingly, and kept in a cool and dry place, and of course away from things that may cause a stain.
