Displaying an American flag is a great way to show your allegiance to
the US sovereign. This is best done when flown in public where others
would see. Keeping a set of proper flag etiquette tops one’s endeavour
of proudly carrying a nationalistic joy in one’s heart. Here are some
pointers on where and when to best display the flag outdoors.

Homeowners would sometimes hang a flag outside their window or over an
opening by the balcony. In this case, it is imperative that the flag
should be hung vertically instead of horizontally.

Automobile owners may have some good ideas in extending their love for
the country when driving their vehicles. Similar to those seen on
diplomatic vehicles, a miniature version of the flag may be hoisted,
provided that there is enough clearance for the flag not to touch the
ground or get stuck up in crevices such as the hood and the chassis.
Main options for flag placement would be the antenna, or a makeshift
pole attached to the fender.

When being hung over roads and avenues, there is a little guideline to
remember in terms of star panel placement.  A northward road would
require the star panel to face the east. Eastward, the star panel
should face the north. Though these are not really part of the law,
they are more of strict guidelines and good flag etiquette.

American flags which are flown on masts and poles alongside other
flags should have one thing in respect to it – it should be higher
than the other flags, unless the other flags are of other nations to
which it should be at the same height. During hoisting, it should be

hoisted first, and also pulled down last.
