Custom Street Pole Banners - Custom Feather Flags

Friday, May 18, 2012

Americans and other people all over the world can quickly point out the national flag. The American flag is also referred to by people using a number of names like the Star Spangled Banner, the Red White and Blue, the Old Glory and the Stars and Stripes. The name might change but the design is generally the same. At the top left corner, you will find several silver stars against a blue background. The remaining part of the flag present 13 red and white horizontal stripes.

Thirteen red and white stripes are used to present the thirteen original colonies that fought for freedom which led to the constitution of the United States in 1776. The silver stars present the current territories and states of America. The number of stars can be adjusted if more states are added.

During the revolution, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Lynch, Benjamin Harrison and other congressmen chose the continental colors. The thirteen red and white stripes were already visible although the flag still featured a British Union banner. After independence was granted, George Washington had Betsy Ross create a new flag for the United States of America. In 1777, the new flag was showcased by Betsy Ross. It is still the same one used today.

The US flag was adjusted after more states were added to the country. President Monroe had the official flag made with 13 red and white stripes and an adjustable number of silver stars based on the number of states America has.

There is no universal pattern for the silver stars. Museums all over the country will feature the American flag with changing patterns.
