There are actually many flags in Puerto Rico. The first is the national flag which is displayed today and represents the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Second are the municipal banners that are featured in every region of the state. Third are political flags used by leaders and other groups. The Puerto Rico flag started in 1868. The people credited for its creation are Dr. Ramon E. Betances and Mariana “Brazos de Oro” Bracetti who conceptualized and made the first version. The flag is also known as Revolutionary banner of the Lares and “El Grito de Lares” particularly during the revolution against the Spanish regime.
