Official events of the Remembrance Day of Canada are mostly celebrated at the Ottawa’s National War Memorial. The events of the Remembrance Day are often started with the sound of the Carillon and followed by other presentations. Some members of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Canadian Forces, Ministers of the Crown, the Ottawa diplomatic unit, special guests and the associate-stately assistant will then march forward when the Carillon begins to play. The Carillon will play “O Canada” while the waving of the Canadian flag is done by the audience and official bearers of the flag. Just like formal occasion the gun salute and sounding of the bell and bugle are present. The Unknown Soldier’s Tomb is shown respect by offering of poppies. Garlands are also placed at the memorial by the Silver Cross sisters. Mothers who hav sent off children to war are represented by these garlands.
All the soldiers who bravely fought during the tumultuous World War I are honored with a special holiday. In America this holiday is the Veterans Day while in Canada it is the Remembrance Day. Government employees celebrate this special occasion. This day might be considered special of general depending on what part of Canada. Quebec and Ontario deems this day as detailed holiday while Western and Atlantic Canada sees it as a general holiday.
It is a tradition for some people to honor those fighting abroad by sending gifts and different tokens of appreciation such as stuffed animals, cards, custom flags, photos and other thoughtful items.
