The term American flag is usually attached with a nationalistic entity encompassing a collective sense of pride by the citizens of the United States of America. This, among other nations’ flags carries the same meaning and value for its own sovereign. As these flags are waved highly into the air for everyone to see, it does not boast but rather reminds the public of how the nation was realized and achieved. Through blood and tears of martyrs, to the sweat and lives of heroes, these flags carry with them the historical richness behind the continued existence nowadays.
While the American flag is automatically associated with the stars and stripes we always see in television, movies, and other media identifying the United States of America, the term itself goes beyond just that. The American flag can also be applied to the different flags used for the different occasions which mark the identity and sovereignty of the nation. As flags are embodiments of pride, identity, and recognition, even the set holidays and key dates may also benefit from being referred with flags.
For instance, Thanksgiving Day is one of the exclusive holidays for the US. It speaks of the early settlers’ struggle to exist in the new world, and emerging triumphant from the harsh winter coldness, and the scarcity of resources. The flag which carries the symbol for this marked event is a historical point in the existence of present day Americans, for if this was not able to push through, there would not be a prestigious superpower today. American Flags are also referred to these flags as they carry a common symbolism of proud identity through the challenges of time and history.
