The flag of Mexico called the Alamo flag has an interesting history. Just like any flag from famous battles, the story of this banner has a hint of controversy in it. This flag looks exactly like the Mexican flag but instead of the symbol of an eagle at the center of the tricolor banner, it is replaced by the year “1824”. The year indicated is referring to the Constitution of Mexico in 1824. This is a relevant year wherein the Texans fought.
This flag is also called “Bandera de Mexico” which means the banner of Mexico in Spanish. The banner has three colors vertically positioned with green at the right and red on the left, in between is the color white with the Mexican coat of arms positioned at the center. Each color has significant meaning however its meaning changed over time.
The tricolors originated from independence from the Kingdom of Spain. This banner that we see today has been used in the year 1968 however the design was made since 1821.
But for somebody who is very much familiar to European flags, the flag of Mexico can be mistaken as the flag of Italy because of its design with the exception of the coat of arms at the middle. The Italian flag has none.
History can tell that this Alamo flag is the banner that was first approved by the Texan legislative body to be used by rebel groups. And starting in 1935, the government of Texas allowed the utilization of the Alamo flag only for those authorize to prey on the trade of Mexico.
