The mystical place of Tibet has been popular as the place where the Dalai Lama resides. But not only is that place known for that matter as there are other things worth appreciating about the place. For one, it is where some of the oldest known faith flags are employed into cultural influence. These faith flags are used mainly during war times by the Bon people. Symbols such as a dragon, tiger, or a snow lion among many others are printed on them. These flags were later absorbed and adopted into Tibetan Buddhism but with added symbols of peace and hope on them.
The colors on these Tibetan flags are significant since they are closely associated with the five elements. The blue represents ether or the wind. White is air. Red is fire. Green is water. Yellow is earth. While some scholars may have other meanings, this is one of the most accepted and known. The five colors also represent the five locations or directions. North, south, east, west, and the center are represented with this flag. Another representation are the five wisdoms associated with Tibetan faith which are harmony, compassion, literal wisdom, kindness and ascended wisdom.

These faith flags more often than not include prayers for wealth, health, and good tidings. One of the mantras – the Om Mani Padme Hum is one of the most popular mantras depicted in these flags. Citizens and followers of these customs and religious norms use these faith flags by the main doorways, outside the house, or places deemed with positive vibes. Even during the Chinese New Year, many go along with the customary practice of hanging these mantra-filled flags for austerity purposes.
