We Americans continue to patronize the two-party system, as has been the practice of our forefathers. The idea is that the winning candidate must get at least 50% plus one of the total votes cast. This way we can say that the victorious candidate is a majority winner. Unlike in other countries where the multi-party system is allowed, if the winning candidate has not garnered the required majority vote, a new run-off election must be held between the top two candidates. In this process a majority winner will be assured.

In our case, we have the Republicans and the Democrats, two parties that has varying sets of ideologies. Voters will just have to select which candidate can deliver more and be the best to run the country or the state. In the past campaign sorties of candidates are so simple that not a semblance of election is in the air. Abraham Lincoln for example, made all his campaign thrust at the back of the railroad train and speeches were short and few, particularly only at train stations.

Today however times has changed, even prior to the convention proper an election primary is held to get the pulse of the people. The venue of these primaries has become sophisticated as well with the addition of political party flags patterned after the national tricolor. So, when you enter these sites, expect the atmosphere to be really festive, not only with political party flags but also banners carried by each delegate.

This heralds the start of the campaign season, as each political party devise ways to keep their venues patriotic in appeal. Have you already made your choice?
