Sports has always been an arena where simulated violence happens. It is also where bits of real violence happen because of fans that support a team or a sport fanatically. They often view insults as grave injuries done to them by other people that deserve vengeance. This happens even if the insult is borne of light banter that is common in all sports events. The thing is, their brand of exacting revenge is usually fatal and very disrupting. Entire events have been stopped simply because there was a riot in the stands.

The most apparent example of a situation where this happens would be during the FIFA World Cup. This is where the different countries in the world would compete for the title of world champion in the arena of soccer or European football. Each country would send the best players they could find. They would fight for the honor and the glory of their country. This means that they fight under their world flag. However, there are some groups that oppose the participation of some countries. This is where hooliganism happens.

While it mainly happens in world events, it also happens in local events. This is apparent when there are already groups that are formed to support one team or another. This is usually seen in NFL enthusiasts since the groups actually have their own set of rules and perceptions. They even have their own NFL team flag to show their support for the team of their choice. They sometimes get violent with each other especially during heated matches. However, it doesn’t end in as much violence and injuries as the hooliganism in world events.
