The sea has always provided a means to travel from one point to another cheaply. There are different attractions to traveling by sea like having some time to spend thinking and breathing in the sea air for a change. However, it also has its dangers. The cost of travel may be cheap but when it comes to potential dangers, you need to be more careful. That is why so many innovations regarding sea vessels and land observation posts have surfaced across generations.

One of the most important innovations was the use of lighthouses along coastlines. These structures told vessels that land was nearby and that it would be dangerous for them to get too close. They even have blank flags to signal boats with in case a ship came too close to a coral reef during the day.

These lighthouses also act as outposts for law enforcement and rescue efforts. Different agencies coordinate with lighthouses so that they can get as much data as possible about vessels in their immediate area. This is also where a cross-reference of the ship’s identity can happen to see if it checks out with the crew and the intentions of the vessel itself. This means that these outposts are invaluable to operations within that area. They can even check to see if they have the proper nautical flags fastened on their ships for safety and security measures. This increases the overall security of the area for the vessels that pass by as they can be tracked and they can receive aid should they need such aid.
