Custom Street Pole Banners - Custom Feather Flags

Thursday, August 4, 2011
What is the difference between a banner and a flag? Simply put, a banner is a piece of fabric bearing a symbol, logo or other message. A flag is a piece of fabric with a distinctive design that is used as a symbol, as a signaling device, or as a decoration. While a flag has restricted use and etiquette involved in display , banners have more flexibility of use and can be adapted to several applications, such as custom table banners.

Banners are often used in parades, rallies, and its more popular use in advertising, specifically in conventions and trade shows. They are also used for street displays during festivals or storefronts for special events. Flags are used mostly for representation of a nation or organization. It also has a wide use in maritime or naval signals, and in sports due to the wide range of signaling uses.

Banners can contain symbols and logos, such as a custom table banner during a trade show that features the brand being marketed, as well a short advertising blurb. The banner can also be hung instead of draped. Due to the advertising or campaigning nature of the banner, its designs can vary indefinitely, while in contrast, a flag design rarely changes.

In terms of material, flags are made with fabric that will flutter in the wind, as the very nature of a flag is for signaling and recognition. Durable materials are often selected to give flags longevity, while allowing the design to be reversed on the other side. Banners on the other hand, have a wider range of materials used, from the now more popular vinyl background to the traditional cloth banners, which are the ones often used in custom table banners. Banners often have designs printed or painted on them.
