Aside from doing many great things in business,
custom flags are also collected by hobbyists around the globe. It may not be as common as the usual like stamp collecting or coin collecting but is just as fascinating or even better.
The method of studying flags is termed as "vexillology". Before the internet allowed easy ordering and shipping of flags, flag collecting used to be a very challenging hobby. Stamp and coin collections were more common because these were cheaper and easier to transfer and ship because of postal service distribution. The advantage that flags have over these other items is that flags are always revered and respected. Flags represent countries and nations, which makes these hard to acquire from certain places before. At present, you can get all the flags in the world with the help of the internet. The actual items can now be used compared to traditional photos in history or social studies classes in school.
Flags are also available in different sizes, each with a corresponding name. There are different elements to the setup as described below.
The
flag pole or flag stand is the structure that holds the flag in place. The side of the flag that is closest to the flag pole is called the hoist. The fly is the side at the other end. The hoist is also known as the flag's vertical side, while the fly is known as the horizontal side. The background color applied on the flag is known as the field.
