Sunday, March 4, 2012
Some old and traditional houses will feature outstanding and mysterious flags hung on the walls. During certain programs and huge family events, people might also notice these flags being displayed in certain areas of the place. These are called crest flags and symbolize the virtues and values of families passed on from one generation to the next. The flags talk a lot about the history and background of the family and some of its notable founders and members, which is why people will notice words, emblems and other symbols.

Crest flags are displayed with pride and goodwill, similar to national flags. These also have relative definitions that are presented throughout the layout. A lion shows dominance, power or royalty. An eagle means strength and high regard. As much as drawings and images are used, colors will also stand for special attributes and traits. Black or red also symbolizes power and strength so it will be common to find patterns that use a combination of these tones. The final layout will depend on specific family traits and virtues.

Some of the displayed flags will also present words and short statements. Normally, the language used will be the same as the original version. Most designs feature Roman or Latin words that talk about the family motto. This is generally very special and means a lot to the family such as talking about royalty, the family's goal towards perfection or bravery and courage. A variety of unique words might also be used.

A family flag features the different elements and principles that shape a particular clan. The motto and images depicted on the flag are intended to inspire future generations so that they can continue the tradition and let the memory live on. Younger generations will better appreciate their roots and understand what the family represents. The family crest flag is made to last for several centuries. It tells a story every time for the older generations to be revered and the younger generations to make a mark in society based on the ideals presented on the flags.
