The POW or the MIA flag is one of the many American flags made to symbolize American soldiers who have been kept as POW's or prisoners of war. They may also have been MIA or missing in action for a long time.

The flag was made to represent the people who fought bravely for the independence of the United States and ended up being war prisoners or permanently missing.

The state flag can be showcased independently on a second flagpole. Learn the proper way of displaying the POW flags when dealing with different structures, setups and poles.

There are special occasions wherein the POW or MIA flags need to be lowered to half employees at the same time as the Nationwide Colors. Included in the list is the Memorial Day for Peace Officers on May fifteen, Patriot Day celebrated on September 11, Memorial Day held on the last Monday in May and Pearl Harbor Memorial Day to be held on December 7.

The POW or the MIA Flag  has a Recognition Day to be celebrated every September on the 3rd Friday. During this period, the POW or the MIA flag must not be reduced to half. It has to be showcased wholly together with the US flag. The following areas need follow the guidelines:  White House at Washington DC, the Capitol in Washington DC, the offices of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, all National Cemeteries, the dignitary offices belonging under the Secretary of State, the dignitary offices under the wing of the Director of the Selective Service System, all public offices, all big navy setups and all VA Medical Middle setups.
