Monday, April 14, 2014
The proud state of Minnesota has its own representation flag which is a combination of a general mix of blue and stars, arranged in a defined order. The Minnesota state flag as it is officially known has a medium blue base color in general with golden borders and a fringe colored gold. At the center of the wide blue medium, there is an emblem of a circle on top of a white background bordered by a yellow line.

Within this circle is a series of scenes taken from The Great Seal of the Minnesota State. Then there are the four groups of stars numbering four each, and the unique fifth set of three stars on top of the said circle. The North Star represents the top star in the pattern while the others form the other points of a five pointed star. Finally, the word MINNESOTA is written in bold and daring red letters below the inner circle.

While the residents of the proud state of Minnesota take pride in their identification of the Minnesota state flag, there are a lot of criticisms from other socio-political groups. Not to be singled out, the Minnesota state flag, among many others have been under hot topics of having its seal giving off a negative effect. In this case, the seal for Minnesota depicts the “Manifest Destiny”, and the consequent land grabbing by the foreign settlers.

Nevertheless, the Minnesota state flag is flown with full honors and respect in public places. Partnered with the star-spangled banner, both flags are to be flown high and true, but with the exception of having the US flag hoisted on the higher level should there be a single pole for the use of both flags.
