Afghanistan is a landlocked country located in south central Asia. On its borders are China, Iran and Pakistan. It is also known as a crossroads of the east and west. Afghanistan actually has a very rich history and features a unique flag.
The flag of Afghanistan made major adjustments through the years compared to other flags in the previous century. Many flags stay the same for many years and even for hundreds of years.
The new flag of the country had the black, green and red tones divided equally on the material. The width of each color is one-half of its length. In the middle of the banner is the national emblem. The emblem has actually been present on the flag since the nation began. During the late 1990s, the emblem disappeared perhaps due to the Taliban. There are a couple of flags seen on each side of the symbol linked to the image of the mosque. Under the mosque is a statement of the country’s name. The entire emblem is white. The holy statement of Afghanistan is put over the symbol with a rising sun. It says, stating that there is only one God, Allah and one prophet Mohammad. The entire emblem also features two wheat branches to border the image.

Many people believe that the various colors on the flag stand for a different time in the history of the nation. The black stripes were supposed to stand for the time when the country was occupied by invaders. The red is for blood and independence and the green is for liberation.
