If you plan on fishing in a river, the first thing you have to do is to identify the spots where the fish are supposed to concentrate. This is because you can't just fish anywhere. If you randomly pick spots to fish in, you're just wasting time. You will need a scout and survey team to set up danger flags in the areas where fishing is viable. This way, you can methodically cast your line and get the catch that you want. This is particularly useful if you are planning to trek across the wilderness for a few days and you're in need of supplies.

If you have a raft and you're in a lake, you might want to keep track of the surrounding area. This is because when you're in out fishing in your raft, you might lose track of where you originally launched from especially if your camp is a little further from the shore. You can set up a series of blank flags on your launch point leading to your camp. This should allow you to keep track of where you started. This should be especially useful in lakes near forests since the shores will look alike.

The most important thing to remember when you plan on going fishing is that you can't do it alone. You will need a team to safely get out alive. After all, you will be carrying a few extra pounds of fish. You wouldn’t want to overburden yourself with too much weight.
