Custom Street Pole Banners - Custom Feather Flags

Friday, January 11, 2013

A world flag and an ensign featuring the national symbols and colors are generally rectangular. There is a ratio of 3:5 or 1:2 when it comes to width and length. The flag should be shown from a pole away from the stern or if  it doesn't distract the proper procedures and mechanism of the ship. If there is a boom going above the stern, the flag must be flown from the outermost mast, above of the leech or gaff.

The ensign must also be featured only from 8 in the morning until sunset. If you are going off the ship and cannot come back before sunset, it is advised that you have to take down the ensign. It must never be featured at night.

There are several ensigns featured in various countries around the world. In America, the Old Glory with the Stars and Stripes and the United States Yacht Ensign features one fouled anchor on top of a circle with 13 stars.

In the United Kingdom, there is the the Union Jack which has 3 super-imposed red with white crosses against a blue canton used by warships. Also, the Red Ensign is used traditionally in maritime particularly by recreational boaters. It is a red flag with the Union Jack shown in the upper left portion.

In Canada,  the most well known symbol is the Maple Leaf  on the flag of Canada. It is the chosen ensign for different Canadian ships vessels. It is composed of two bands that are with the red maple leaf at the center. There are two red vertical bands on each side.
