When you enter a dojo, you will find a variety of world flags hanging on the walls. You may wonder why there are so many of these presented. Many people do not bother to ask but these do look attractive and inviting. One of the main reasons is that martial arts is founded and developed in various countries around the world. Many training schools will then showcase the nations that developed their specific form of martial arts, to show respect to the old masters as well as pass on tradition.
It is important to show respect to the pioneers of the martial art. Students will also learn more about the history and background of their preferred form of self-defense by identifying the different world flags hanging on the walls. The world flag on the wall may include the flag of Japan, Korea, Brazil and the United States among others. In today’s world, only a handful of people know how to show respect to the world flag. The flag is a great symbol of honor and glory for citizens. Whenever you look at the flag, think of all the people who risked their lives just so we can enjoy liberty and freedom. Many people died trying to fight for the very principles that are embodied on the national flag. However, time tends to make many forget. Now, there are only a number of groups that still understand how to properly keep the flag.
Several decades ago, it was basic for individuals to know how to fly, retire, raise and destroy an old flag with full respect. However, schools no longer teach flag etiquette and there are very few reliable sources online where people can get tips on how to care for their flags or raise it in a proper manner. Only those from the armed forces or scouting regiments can prepare and raise a flag the right way. Old houses with old folks may have a flag or two displayed on their porch or lawn. The younger individuals, however, do not understand why this is done so their lawn stays bare.
Torn and old flags should be retired and not kept on top of poles for a long time. People do not know that tattered flags should be lowered and burned in a dignified manner. Continuing to raise the world flag in poor form only shows disrespect. Ask the military how to best care for these.

Today, people tend to lack regard to their world flag, thereby showing disrespect to their own nation. The flag actually stands for the virtues and principles that our forefathers established centuries ago. The flag flies high to stand for the many sacrifices that brave men and women went through just to free our country from oppression. For many years, people take the flag for granted and do not even know the proper rules on how to take proper care of it.
About half a century ago, people were more educated on how to care for a flag. They would show it the respect it deserves by folding it properly and burning a tattered banner with honour. Now, only the armed forces and scouts know how to handle and keep a flag well. Schools stopped teaching students about flag etiquette. There are even students who do not know how to sing the national anthem. If you go through the old neighbourhood, there are still some houses that display the flags with pride. Now, the numbers of displayed flags in front of homes and offices have decreased significantly.
There are even people who tear or destroy the flag, let it touch the ground or fail to clean it regularly. It is important that we maintain the rules of flag etiquette as a model for others. The world flag should be treated with more respect and dignity. In the long run, other countries will also look up to us if we know how to display our banner with honour.
