June 14 is a special holiday for many people, because it is known as Flag Day. The holiday looks back at the original adoption of the U.S. Flag. President Woodrow Wilson established June 14 as National Flag Day in 1916. However, Congress only recognized such date in 1949. June 14 is not actually an official holiday. Only Pennsylvania state celebrates Flag Day as a non-working holiday. In Troy, New York, the largest Flag Day Parade is held every year with about 50,000 people from various states gathering to see the big display.
It is also rare for June 14 to fall on a weekend, which is why the National Day Foundation decided to hold Flag Day annually during the second Sunday of June. The event will feature various activities related to the flag, such as singing the national anthem, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and raising the American banner. In the last week of June, National Flag Week will present the American president telling Americans to wave and display their flag at various places for the entire week.

Every nation features its own flag and people are generally proud to celebrate their national Flag Day. The holiday will tell people to showcase their national flag for one day or more as well as look back at their background. Flag Day activities will change depending on the place. Usually, people showcase the US world flag on their front lawn or backyard. They also like to share stories about the nation’s leaders and how the flag was created.
