Africa is the second largest continent of the world in terms of land area and it has a total of 54 countries. It is also now the second biggest continent in terms of population. Each country in Africa is something very interesting to learn about because it is unique from each other. They have different traditions, culture, beliefs or religion, political status, means of living and lifestyle. Africa also has 54 flags that are designed distinctively because of its history and symbolic meanings. To site some flags, below will be examples of African flags hoisted on flagpoles.
Morocco is a country in northern part of Africa with a common flag. The flag has a green five-pointed star which symbolizes the Seal of Solomon which represents good health. The star is in the red field which symbolizes the color of Mohammed, an Islamic prophet.
Alegeria is also a country in northern part of Africa but located by the Mediterranean Sea. The flag is divided into 2 colors, green at the left (by the flagpole) and white at the right, vertically positioned. At the center is a red colored crescent and small red five-pointed star placed almost inside the crescent. The combination of a star and a crescent are custom symbols of Islam.
Tunisia’s flag is similar with the flag of Algeria and so does with the rest of African flags because the symbols of Islamic religion are very evident in its design.
There is so much to learn about Africa. Learning about flags opens the knowledge to learning their countries’ history as well.
