How to display a flag at the porch or sidewalks:
There are homes that have flag poles as part of their frontal landscapes. Some of these flag poles extend up to the sidewalk area. For this area, the stars or the Union symbol must face where the front of the house is facing.
How to display a flag from a porch horizontally located an angle from a window:
For those homes with flag poles that are higher than the house that it is at the level of a balcony or second floor window, the Union symbol must be raised on top so it can be seen at the peak of the pole.
How to display multiple flags at one area:
For those homes that have several kinds of flags displayed altogether, the rule is to follow this order: national, state, territory and military.
  • National flags must be arranged in alphabetical order but the US flag must be the first in line, followed by the states within its territory.
  • State flags must be displayed by having the host state as first in line followed by other states in the order of their admission to the US union.
  • Military flags must be displayed with other groups following this order: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and other similar groups.
How to display from the same flag pole:
If the American flag is displayed with other flags at the same flag pole, it must be the highest position. Keep other flags on the pole lower.
