Custom Street Pole Banners - Custom Feather Flags

Monday, June 15, 2015
Flag Dancing has become a popular form of art that competitions are now being held in large cities in the United States, notably in San Francisco and New York. In Texas, it is now touted as the Texas Flagger Weekend.  So what is flag dancing anyway?

Flag dancing, as the name denotes, is an art form where the dancers will be using custom flags as their featured equipment. To the beat of music, dancers will be spinning and waving the flag. The dancers do not just wave and spin .There are workshops for a person to join in to perfect the craft. Imagine the kaleidoscope of colors when these dancers move in tune with an upbeat sound. Other terms for this activity includes flag spinning, rag spinning and flagging. The dancers themselves are labeled as flaggers. What we commonly see is flag twirling where the flags are attached to a pole.  In this version, the flag is not affixed to any form of hardware. The weight placement of the flag in this art form has been compared of late to fan dancing.

The flags are made up of lightweight materials and often, silk is the preferred cloth. The fabric will come in a variety of color or in other instances; the fabrics used will be dyed with vibrant colors, dependent on what the flagger requires. The designing of these flags has also evolved as some have branched to using ultraviolet fluorescent type of colors for a more dramatic effect. While others will come painted on with glitters or sequins for a more glamorous presentation. Talk about a heart stopping show!

Aside from being categorized as a form of art, flag dancing can be seen as another form of workout. Workshops that offer dance sessions on flag dancing teach the proper wave, the proper way of spinning the custom flags. The number of hours devoted to perfecting flag dancing can be vigorous. Hence, it would seem that a person undergoing the training to become a flagger has just come from the gym.

Today, the popularity of flag dancing has become widespread across the US. We now have flagging organization leaders continually facilitating events, workshops and conventions to cater flag dancing as well as custom flag aficionados. Flag dancing can seem similar to Maori Poi Dance and Hawaiian fire dancing but custom flags add a different flavor to a classic dance number.
