Some types of custom tents are not supposed to be unoccupied without stakes set up first. The wind can immediately ruin a lightweight tent if not properly fixed on the ground.
The dome tent is ideal for backpackers and other individuals who like the great outdoors. It is also preferred by mountaineers and people who love the cold. The aerodynamic shape of the dome can keep people inside warm.
The tent can also stay strong against wind and are quite easy to assemble and roll up if you need to relocate. The dome tent, however is not ideal if you want more ventilation. Moisture tends to collect at the dome’s peak.
The tunnel tent is generally used by backpackers. Some models are very light, weighing no more than one pound.
Nylon is the usual material preferred. The tent also has limited space but the tent can be good for those who are looking for a compact design. The tent can further be rolled into a tight package no bigger than a football. The tent stands freely without the need for stakes or lines except if you add a fly.
The tent is lightweight, making it a good choice for backpackers and canoeists. The wind also tends to flow through it well, making it good during the winter months. The tent also has great ventilation and can easily be set up.

The A-Frame tent is a custom tent used by most backpackers. The frame can be placed into sleeves or kept standing independently from the shelter. Tents that feature an upright pole in the middle of the opening are not as common today.
