A lot of people are becoming concerned about the virtue of patriotism. There are some who say that patriotism should be taught to children in classrooms through programs and other methods. Many schools realize that teaching the principle can actually be easy if there are ready modules that can be passed on through the years. There have been schools that value patriotism so much that they do not allow students to graduate unless they have thoroughly learned the virtue. However, in the past several years, fewer schools have been incorporating lessons about patriotism. As a result, children no longer admire it as much as before.
Patriotic programs should be developed so that students can appreciate the history of their country and develop a passion towards protecting it. There are special programs available that will help children learn quickly. Students should be taught how to show respect to the national flag. They should be taught about the various symbols of patriotism, such as the Statue of Liberty, the Lincoln Memorial, the Liberty Bell and the Washington Monument, among other landmarks. All of these carry messages that should be taught to the next generation.
Students should also be educated about the various national holidays so that they can learn patriotism more. Some of the annual events include Veterans Day and Election Day in November, Constitution Day in September, Columbus Day in October, Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January, Constitution Day in September, Presidents Day in February, Memorial Day in May and Independence Day in July. These are all special holidays that should be remember because these teach about the freedom that all Americans currently have. September 11 should also be remembered as a day of sorrow and unity.
Aside from landmarks and holidays, a good patriotic song will also help teach the virtue better. There are actually plenty of nationalistic songs that have been made through the years. Students should memorize by heart the national anthem of the United States. It is also ideal to show children a drawing or power point presentation of the American flag. Teach them about the history of the banner and what each color and symbol mean. Children should be taught about the proper ways of showing respect and treating the flag of the United States of America.

In total, a patriotic program should have different methods of being taught. The symbols and colors of the national flag should be learned. The national holidays must always be remembered. Patriotic songs should be sung and photos should be shared. The United States of America must also be remembered in terms of its rich history and leaders. There are scholars who have gathered information and facts through the decades and they can guide people accordingly on how to preserve the virtue of patriotism for the next generation. Also teach children how to handle the American flag properly by letting them join scouting programs and activities. Take children to museums and other historical places so they can appreciate America’s past more.
