When you are in Jakarta, Indonesia, you need to make time to visit the Monas. It is a special monument that was set up for locals and tourists to contemplate the time when Indonesia became a free country. The places is also known as Monumen Nasional. It was built by the first president of the nation, Soekarno, back in 1961. The place became open to visitors 10 years later. When Soekarno was the leader, the Monas was the tallest structure in the country. It stood 132 meters above the city and was an ideal structure that represented the battle for independence.

You can also move to the top of the building via an elevator. The whole city of Jakarta can be seen from the top floor. The Independence Room houses the Indonesian flag as well as other items that represent the history of the nation. At the base is the National History Museum. There is a park called Merdeka Square outside. When you move into the museum, there are 51 dioramas that showcase the history of how Indonesia became free.

Sundays and holidays are not ideal to visit the Monas because lot of students and tourists visit the top. It will be a long line before you get to the top. A single elevator can only accommodate 11 persons per trip. Thousands of people go to the place during the holidays, so you might only get to stay at the top for a few minutes.
There are also plenty of people in Jakarta who are not good in the English language. It is better to look for someone who can speak English who can drive for you or take you on tours.
