Flags started out as medium for communication, it was the favorite of the American Indians as it can traverse long distances through its smoke signals. It can warn population centers in cases of an impending emergency. When sea travel became a way of life, sea-faring vessels always have these flags at their masts to show their homeport, their nationalities and identities. But most of all flags were used for semaphore signaling, so even at wayward distances ships can communicate, particularly on important news about the weather, sea-piracy and ship emergency.

Today however, with our improved communication facilities, the presence of flags became only decorative in nature. Although flags are still a must for its identity, its importance had totally diminished. Now to add a new dimension to these flags, it is now placed from end to end of vessels to give it a festive appeal.

Cruise ships for example, have hundreds of these flags in the mast, the upper decks and even on the sides. So, tourists out for a swell time will surely develop a feeling that this really is a trip worth the dollars invested. Because of the presence of these boat flags , an atmosphere of gaiety is achieved, so from the embarkation point to the actual sea cruise, it will all be fun - pools and sauna during the day, to gala and formal dining, ballroom dancing at night and casino to the more adventurous. These are wonderful opportunities to meet new people, be intimate with your partners and even close business deals.

Imagine the Queen Mary, a gigantic cruise ship without the flags and you would be totally amazed.
