The flags of Africa are quite unique because these use different elements and loud colors compared to other countries around the world. Several
world flags can be found in residential and commercial areas on top of flag poles. The poles would also be made of various materials although the basic ones are from steel or wood. Many countries in Africa are going through big improvements in terms of wealth and economy. This can be signified by the presence of certain items on the banner.
Nigeria was initially a British protectorate and then later on developed into a colony. The country started in 1914 after the north and south areas were united. The country gained its independence in 1960 and was entered into the Commonwealth. The Nigerians know a lot about its historic past dating back about 9000 B.C. at least. Several proofs were found regarding early human beings in Nigeria. The Bantu immigrants are said to have resided in the area 3000 years ago.
A few centuries ago, Spanish and Portuguese explorers built trading routes in Nigeria and nearby territories. They traded various items with the locals especially with those living along the shore. Slaves were also traded before. During the 1900's the territory was governed by the King of Great Britain before it was freed sixty years after.
In the 1970's, Nigeria became highly famous because of the oil boom. The country joined the OPEC which helped bring in millions or billions of dollars into the country. Not all benefited from the wealth, though, because of graft and corruption in the government.
