Custom Street Pole Banners - Custom Feather Flags

Friday, February 8, 2013

In the military, it is common practice to fold the American flag into a rectangle when not displayed. The practice is done by several groups and people from all over the United States even though there is no law or specific guideline that dictates such. The idea is to show respect and take good care of the banner:

1. Start by holding the flag at the height of your waist and with the aid of another person, keeping the material parallel to the floor.

2. The lower half of the striped part should be folded lengthwise over the portion where the stars are located. Hold the top and bottom portions well.

3. Fold the flag a second time lengthwise, keeping the blue part on the outer side.

4. Create a rectangle fold followed by a triangle fold. This is done by putting the striped part of the folded edge towards the open edge of the banner. Begin the fold from the left going to the right part.

5. Create a second triangle by bringing the outer edge towards the inner portion, parallel to the open end.

6. The triangle folding should go on until all the flag is folded in the same way. Generally, it will take about 13 triangular folds. The last fold might not fully form a triangle so tuck it instead.

7. Once the flag is fully folded, you will only see the triangle blue part with stars.

American flags should be kept well in flag cases for added longevity.
