Let me give you some little facts about Chad. The country’s people is known to be very big fans of Japhet N’doram, a Chadian soccer player and one of the most popular soccer players in 1990s. Although the country has good soccer players, they never joined of the FIFA World Championships.

The Lake Chad
In the Republic of Chad you will see the famous Chad Lake. The name is derived from a native word Chad which means lake or large area of water. This is lake gave the name of the country. This is one of the best sites of Africa and is ranked 17th as the world’s largest lake. It is almost as big as the size of Hawaii, a state in America. Although tourists declined since the civil war in 1975, starting in the year 2000 this lake has become the top tourist attraction. Until now, they receive many visitors from all over the world, majority of them are from France.
The People

This nation has a population of over 10 million people wherein only over 20% live in urban areas. Majority of the Chadian people live in the south area of the country. The largest ethnic group is Sara, then by Arabs and other minority groups.  
Chad’s Independence
The country was under the French colonial expansion for over 60 years. It officially declared its independence on August 11, 1960. This is Africa’s first country that gained its independence in the 20th century.


The Capital City

N’Djamena is the capital and the largest city, formerly called Fort Lamy.
