The US flag features a blue left upper portion which features 50 white stars. Every star symbolizes one state. There are also red and white stripes on the flag which represent the 13 first colonies which established the independence of America from British rule. Betsy Ross is known as the one who made the American flag and featured the white stars. George Washington originally wanted the stars to have six points. It was actually President Washington who showed Ross what he wanted to include on the flag, although Ross placed the final details before the official introduction.
