If you check on television, films and other media sources, you will observe that the “Old Glory” is folded by the honor guard at a military funeral 13 times precisely. The American flag should be folded 13 times to represent the first 13 colonies that established the states. The honor guard will also follow the right way of folding the American flag. It is important to abide by the process. Many military traditions and practices require that the process always be followed. There are government schools the used to teach these and incorporated the approach in military practice until 1955.
Each fold has its own significance. The first fold involving the stars and stripes represents life. The second fold stands for the American’s belief in life after death. The third fold stands for honor and contemplates on the war veterans who sacrificed their lives to keep the country safe from foreign invasion as well as maintain peace throughout the world. These warriors are sent to different foreign countries to establish rapport and help those in need The fourth fold stands for the Americans’ loyalty and faith in God. Since people are inherently susceptible to temptation and mistakes, Americans rely on God for protection and guidance. The fold reminds Americans not to trust in their own strength but to rely on the Lord. The fifth fold on the flag represents love for country. As patriot Stephen Decatur once said, “Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong.” The sixth flag fold stands for loyalty and allegiance to our great country. People pledge their undying patriotism to America and to the republic established by our forefathers.
The seventh fold honors the brave Armed Forces, who constantly provide protection to citizens anywhere in the world. The flag is raised to stand against any type of enemy within and outside. The eighth fold is a symbol for people who risked their lives to secure the people of the United States. It also represents our love for our mothers, who brought us into the world. The ninth fold relates to being a woman. Women are represented as strong, intelligent and steadfast individuals, bearing honorable children to defend the country. A woman’s love is also shown, which can overcome the biggest challenges. The tenth fold is for fathers all over the country, who guide their children to remain upright and serve the country. Fathers are also honored for putting their lives on the line for the sake of their families. The eleventh fold represents the lower region of King David and King Solomon’s seal. It shows respect to the ancient God of the Hebrews, the same one served by Abraham and Moses. The twelfth fold is a symbol of eternity and pays respect to the Christian Lord, the Holy Spirit and the Son, Jesus Christ. Finally, the thirteenth fold finalizes everything and displays the stars on top. It constantly reminds people that they must trust God everywhere.
