If you decide to play cornhole more seriously, you might consider buying your own set or making one on your own. Cornhole bags and boards are actually easy to make provided you have the right materials and tools. You can come up with good quality cornhole bags by looking for the materials yourself. These are conveniently available in many department stores. Simply look for a good source of duck canvass, corn kernels and stitching materials.
If you decide to make your own, you need to know how to sew. Cornhole bags need to be sewn on three sides first before you add the filling. When the bag weighs about 14 to 16 ounces, stitch the fourth side shut. Double stitching is required so that the bags stay intact even when you throw these plenty of times onto the board. Also choose the right kind of filling. You can use corn kernels, dried beans and sand. There are also plastic pellets that will be safe against insects and rodents.
Choose the right kind of corn kernel that has the right weight and shape. Cornhole bags need to be stored and kept away from sunlight and moisture if you are using traditional corn kernels. For modern fillings like plastic pellets, these will last longer and do not have to be kept away from moisture and mildew. You will find it more convenient to bring the pellet fillings for outdoor use. Bring the material to the lakeside or beach for a great outdoor game.
