Cornhole bags look like colored squares that are cut out and sewn out of a duck canvass. The material can be either cotton or linen and will last long depending on the frequency of games. When you buy the cloth, you might need to ask the seller for “duck” and they will instantly know what you are looking for. The cornhole bags measure about six by six inches after being sewn on all sides. First, you need to cut a square from the duck canvass measuring eight by eight inches. Fill the bag with corn or pellets after sewing the three sides then seal the fourth side shut. Use double stitching to enhance the strength of the bags.
You can choose the filling of the bags although corn kernels are the traditional material. The bag actually acquired its name from its original corn fillings. Now, there are more options for users that will keep the bags strong and safe against the elements and rodents. Sand, plastic pellets and dried beans are among the best options. However, each bag should weight about 14 to 16 ounces, regardless of the type of filling you use. Bean bags are also ideal because these are not as dusty as corn kernels and will give the bags the right feel and consistency. Color the bags in various ways or assign one color per playing team.
Some say that the game of cornhole started in Germany, while others say that it was invented in Kentucky much later. There are others that claim that cornhole was initiated by the people who lived in the Midwest. There are also other names for cornhole like Indiana Horseshoes and Bean Toss. Regardless of the name, the cornhole bag has become one of the most popular items today.
