Since its early beginnings in the Midwest, the game of cornhole has grown significantly in the past few decades and more people are playing it in every region in the United States. Some people are still torn whether they should get their own cornhole game set or make their own cornhole bags, which will cost much less. Determine your needs and skills first before you make a set on your own to save time, money and effort.
One set of cornhole bags will consist of eight bags. Each team will get four bags. It is highly recommended that you color the first four bags with one color then assign another color for the final four. This way, you can easily assign the bags to each group and identify to which team it belongs to. The bags are also made of duck canvas, which is a tough but breathable material that will last long even when thrown and moistened several times. The bag is about six by six inches after you sow it. You should begin with squares measuring eight by eight inches to leave from for stitching. Each bag should weigh around 14 to 16 ounces. Double stitching is recommended by experts so that the bags do not easily rip and the filling does not come out during play.
There is duck canvas readily available in most department stores. You also have to look for corn kernels or the filling you prefer to put in the bags. Sewing will require some skill so practice first to ensure that the cornhole bags stay durable.
